What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a socially debilitating condition that involves excessive and uncontrolled sweating on any area of the body, particularly on the hands, feet, underarms and head. Of course it is critical for your body to sweat when it needs to cool, but hyperhidrosis occurs when the body does not need cooling.

Sweat is produced by the eccrine glands in the skin, and while located all over the body, they are mainly concentrated on the hands and feet.

Hyperhidrosis is visible sweating when you aren’t exerting yourself.

Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis

How can you tell if you have hyperhidrosis or are just sweating? Look for the following symptoms, and if you are unsure, call and make an appointment for a complete evaluation.

  • Visible sweating when you are not exerting yourself
  • Sweating that interferes with everyday activities, like writing with a pen or even dripping on your computer at work
  • Skin that turns a soft white color and peels off, staying wet for long periods of time
  • Frequent skin infections on areas of the body that sweat often
